At Grace Home, we believe that there is more to true support than to simply provide a bed to sleep in and food to consume. We are here to not only care for the basic needs of our residents but to also help prepare them to resume life on their own. There are many things to consider when living on your own with a little one to care for and we want to make sure each woman we come in contact with has the tools necessary to make it out in the world. We do this by maintaining a structured lifestyle and offering various training opportunities that will be an asset to the women in their personal lives.
Financial and Medical Help
During their stay a woman’s needs are one hundred percent covered in every way. There is no charge to stay and all food, transportation, and medical costs are taken care of by Grace Home. Regular hospital visits are facilitated and transportation provided for the entirety of pregnancy as well as check-ups after birth.
Brian and Leah became our resident house parents in May of 2016. They offer our residents a picture of a healthy, nurturing relationship between a married couple. As they raise their own teenagers alongside the residents at Grace Home, they are an example of what a loving relationship between parents and children looks like. As house parents their role is to be the authority figures, but also the loving, nurturing parents that the women will soon be to their own child. They are here to be an example and a ready source for information and guidance on any issue with which our residents are wrestling.
Life Skills & Education
Besides the daily skills acquired through being responsible for keeping their own space clean and organized, helping with household chores, and aiding in meal preparation, many other skills and training will be given to our residents during their stay at Grace Home. We want to help anyone who has not acquired their high school diploma to either be able to do so or prepare them to take the GED test. Tutoring is available to help meet their educational goals.
Budgeting and financial responsibility is taught, with the ability to practice what they learn through our Grace Home Store where they can spend the ‘Money’ they earn to purchase baby and personal items. They even have the option of saving as much as they can and cashing out their account upon their departure, giving them a financial boost in starting their new life! Courses on personal nutrition, physical fitness, birth and childcare, parenting, and more will be a part of their daily lives at Grace Home.
Mentorship & Counseling
In addition to the practical life skills training, we also desire to guide the women in areas of personal and spiritual growth. Volunteers from around the community come in to connect with them on an emotional level. They will help them learn to study the Word of God, pray with, and grow strong personal relationships with them. We also have a trained counselor on staff whose goal it is to help the women overcome their personal struggles and grow in their ability to face the challenges and temptations of life.
